Reporting from Washington— President Obama insisted the U.S. was not in danger of falling into another recession, but acknowledged in a televised interview aired Sunday that his reelection would hinge on the economy.
In the interview with CBS News taped last week — after a Gallup poll found that just 26% of respondents approved of the way the president is handling the economy — Obama said: "I'm the president of the United States, and when people aren't happy with what's happening in Washington … I'm going to be impacted just like Congress is. And you know, I completely understand that

Wow! How did the Red Wings lose three games to those guys?
It was, like, total domination of the Sharks on Tuesday night, except for the having so much trouble scoring goals part.
Really, what the heck was up with the first 50 minutes of that game, when it was all Wings, taking shot after shot, but the puck was bouncing every way but the right way for them?
The longer it went on, the more you could see bad things happen, and darned if the Sharks didn't take an undeserved 1-0 lead for about 7 minutes in the third

With at least a couple of more days before they know who they’ll play in the second-round, the Detroit Red Wings hit the couch with TV remote in hand to catch the playoff action over the weekend.
What they saw reminded them how important it was that they took care of business as quickly as possible in the first round.
“You look at other series and other situations and it’s amazing what momentum can do in other series,” Detroit forward Kris Draper said. “That’s why when we had that first opportunity to knock Phoenix out, that’s what we wanted to

The Washington Redskins would do well to trade down from this pick. They have much more pressing needs at quarterback and wide receiver.
I only see them sticking this out if Julio Jones comes sliding their way. Other than that, Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert are sure to be gone. This is too high a selection to take Jake Locker. There are plenty of receivers worth taking, just much later in the first round.
If they do stick around, they will be looking to take a play maker of a different sort. Here are the opinions from our favorite experts.

There’s a popular song that refers to Christmas as being “the most wonderful time of the year,” but for the hockey fan in me, there are two such times, and we’re in the middle of one right now: the Stanley Cup playoffs.
An announcement Tuesday has made this wonderful time extra-special, and it should have hockey fans in the United States rejoicing. The NHL has a new 10-year agreement to remain on NBC and Versus.
To some, this is a disappointment because they wanted the NHL back on ESPN. To me, this is the greatest thing to happen to the

University of Kentucky guard Doron Lamb will return for his sophomore season and will not submit his name for NBA draft evaluation, the school announced Tuesday.
Lamb, a 6-foot-4 guard from Queens, N.Y., averaged 12.3 points per game and led the Southeastern Conference in three-point field goal percentage at 48.6 percent.
UK coach John Calipari said last week that he did not expect Lamb to enter the draft, but said it would be "fine" if he opted to do so.
"Last season was an unbelievable run for me and my teammates, winning the SEC Tournament and advancing to the Final

Mavericks center Tyson Chandler changed the look of the Mavericks on the defensive end this season, turning them into a top ten statistical defense, and his efforts were noticed. Chandler finished third behind Dwight Howard and Kevin Garnett in defensive player of the year award voting Monday. Chandler's finish was the highest ever by a Maverick.
Howard won in a landslide with 114 first-place votes. Garnett received one first-place vote. Chandler, in his first season with the Mavs following two injury-riddled seasons with New Orleans and Charlotte, received 20 second-place votes and finished seven points behind Garnett in the final

It’s 2011, and we live in a world of 3-D and motion controllers. That’s what makes Fight Night Champion a disappointing game. The fifth Fight Night title for EA Sports Canada, it adds a shiny new exoskeleton to the previous version and marries brute-force gaming with a movie-like storyline. The rags-to-riches-to-rags-to-riches tale of fighter Andre Bishop is somewhat engaging and adds a much-needed twist to what has become a somewhat tired franchise. But it’s still very much a 2-D, button-mashing game, stuck in the gaming world of 2009.
Punching controls are easier, the AI is smarter, fighters look, feel and
